Louis Michel has long been the reference point for tank fermented Chablis. I have been a huge admirer of his wines for years. Why? They are perhaps the purest expressions of the stony Chardonnay fruit grown on the limestone slopes of this northern Burgundy appellation.Robert Parker
Our goal is to produce authentic Chablis that respect the environment and are the best expression of the terroir. We let the wine make itself, as far as possible.Guillaume Michel
About Louis Michel
The Michel family have been cultivating the Chablis terroir for 6 generations, since 1850.
The Domaine Louis Michel winery is situated right in the heart of the village of Chablis, with the 25-hectare vineyard spread over the very first slopes that were cultivated by Cistercian monks in the 11th century. More than 40 years ago, the family was one of the first to stop making wine in wooden barrels, preferring to create clean, pure and precise Chablis, respecting the typicity of each terroir, without any woody tastes.
Through this philosophy, combined with the limited yields inspired by organic wine-growing techniques, Domaine Louis Michel has developed a worldwide reputation for fine wine-making in stainless steel tanks. Today, the Domaine is managed by Jean-Loup and his nephew, Guillaume Michel.
