About Stéphane Ogier
History has shown that good things happen in the Northern Rhône when growers like Stéphane Ogier and his family begin making their own wines. For generations the Ogier family were polycultural farmers in the region, and among their cultivation were exceptional grapes planted on the steep slopes of Côte-Rôtie. For many years they sold their grapes to négociant Marcel Guigal, until the day that Michel Ogier decided to make and bottle his own wine. Now 30 years later, Ogier d’Ampuis has established a reputation that rivals even the grandest, most-established producers in the region.
Stéphane Ogier began taking over winemaking responsibilities from his father in the late 1990s after finishing oenology school in Burgundy. Following his father’s philosophy, he has relentlessly taken great care to produce the best wines possible. His is also a dynamic force for change, expanding the estate and experimenting with various vinification techniques in an effort ro maximize both quality and value.
The resulting wines are among the most exciting in all of the northern Rhône Valley, as demonstrated by his single-vineyard Côte-Rôtie wines Belle Helene and Lancement each receiving 100-point scores from top wine critics in recent years.
One of France’s most brilliant small artisanal wineries… Ogier’s wines just keep getting better and better, so if you haven’t yet jumped on the Ogier bandwagon, it’s time to do so
