The sparkling wines from Ridgeview Estate are superb and will forever put to rest the notion that England is not capable of making good wine.

Ridgeview could be described as the granddaddy of English sparkling-wine producers.

About Ridgeview

Ridgeview was founded in 1995 by Mike and Chris Roberts, whose passion for Sussex and wine led them to realize a vision nurtured over many years. Having studied the geographical setting and unique climate, it was clear to them that Southern England had great potential to produce world-class traditional method sparkling wine. At a time when sparkling wine production in England was largely unexplored, they became one of the first English Wineries to plant Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier; the three classic varieties used to make Champagne.

The original vineyard can be found at the foot of the beautiful South Downs in Sussex. The site was chosen for its unique geology. The chalk, limestone and clay soils have proven perfect for growing these classic sparkling varieties, and the cool climate is essential in ensuring the grapes retain high levels of natural acidity which is crucial to producing interesting and complex sparkling wines.

In 1997 the Roberts built a new state-of-the-art winery, creating one of England’s only underground cellars to ensure perfect conditions for secondary bottle fermentation. Mrore than 20 years later, production has increased to more than a quarter of a million bottles and Ridgeview is sold across the world. Now a second-generation family business, CEO Tamara Roberts is at the helm with her brother Simon Roberts as Head Winemaker.

The original vision and values remain at the heart of everything Ridgeview does today. The family and their dedicated team continue to make Ridgeview a trusted industry leader and beacon for English wine internationally.

Ridgeview has celebrated some amazing accomplishments in its relatively short history, including ‘Best Sparkling Wine in the World, Decanter 2010’ and more recently, ‘Best International Winemaker’ at the International Wine and Spirits Competition 2018 and named Number 36 in the Best Vineyards in the World to Visit.  Ridgeview wines are also proudly served at Buckingham Palace State Banquets and the English Houses of Parliament.

Ridgeview’s range of wines simply reflects their philosophy, to create uncompromisingly high-quality sparkling wine with a purity that conveys the unique characteristics of grapes grown in Southern England.
