About William Fèvre

Domaine William Fèvre is a benchmark producer in Chablis with a very broad range of wines across all quality levels, from village-level to Grand Cru.  It was William Fèvre that took the passion and history of his family in the area of Chablis and turned that into one of the most recognized producers in all of Burgundy.

William Fèvre belongs to a family with ties to the Chablis region for over 250 years. It was his father Maurice that heavily influenced William’s love of wine, as he was a well-respected grower in Chablis after the Second World War. Fèvre took this inspiration to found what was originally called Domaine de la Maladière in 1959. Over the following decades, Fèvre tirelessly built up both his investment in vineyards and in new technology to continuously improve the quality of the wines that he produced. In the 1980s, Fèvre was a very powerful voice in updating the AOC laws of Chablis, which expanded the vineyard sites falling under the appellation. His influence in style and viticulture can be seen across the region to this day.

Fèvre retired in 1998 and passed the torch to the Henriot family, known for their namesake Champagne House established in 1808, who rebranded in his honor and have owned and operated it ever since. Today, Domaine William Fèvre owns the largest array of Premier and Grand Cru vineyards in Chablis (39 acres of Premier Cru, 38 acres of Grand Cru) and produces single-vineyard bottlings from six Premier Cru and six Grand Cru sites.

Domaine Fèvre has been a huge proponent of organic viticulture, inspired by the philosophies of William’s goal to create the best possible wines from sustainable vineyard sources. Today all 192 acres of the Domaine are farmed organically with the Premiers and Grands Crus being farmed biodynamically. In 2015, the Domaine was awarded the HVE 3 (High Environmental Value) status, the highest level of environmental certification in France, in recognition of its sustainable cultivation methods.

The Henriot family has continued to pursue the signature style of Domaine William Fèvre — one centered on allowing the terroir of Chablis to shine through in every bottle. Focusing on highlighting the famed Kimmeridgian soils of the region, Fèvre produces wines with limited use of only neutral oak to ensure intense minerality is a consistent feature of each bottling.

The reputation and quality of Domaine William Fèvre have only grown over the last 20 years under the direction of famed Cellar Master Didier Séguier, who received the International Challenge Competition “White Winemaker of the Year” award in 2018. Recognized not only for its incredible quality across the range of bottlings, the wines of the Domaine are also some of the greatest values in Chablis, especially for their Grand and Premier Cru wines. The wines of Domaine William Fèvre are beautiful and approachable on release and have shown vintage after vintage to improve in the cellar for many years.
