About J. de Villebois

J. de Villebois is a family winery owned by Joost and Miguela de Willebois. Over the last 15 years, J. de Villebois has become a leading Sauvignon Blanc producer in the Loire Valley with a unique range of Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc wines cultivated in its own vineyards.

The owners’ great love for France and the royal Loire Valley in particular can be easily explained. For years, Joost (who is from the Netherlands) has worked in various parts of France, hence his passion for the country’s culture, history, and, of course, its wines. The de Villebois family history dates back 900 years to when his ancestors were living in France. In 1630, Louys de Villebois, the eldest son of Jean de Villebois, inherited a family estate in the northern part of France and settled there. The label J. de Villebois is therefore a tribute to his ancestor.

Joost and Miguela’s wine journey started in 2004, when Joost spotted a small, well-run local winery in the Touraine region. The owner at the time had established himself with a long tradition of producing the finest local Sauvignon Blanc wines; however, he lacked a successor. Joost and Miguela recognized this as a golden opportunity to transform the small winery into a wider producer of quality Sauvignon Blanc wines from the Loire region.

Since its start, J. de Villebois has grown its business year-in, year-out to what it has become today. The winery produces a range of 13 Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc wines ranging from entry-level Sauvignon Blanc Vin de France to single-vineyard Sancerre wines. It is a highly-focused on the Sauvignon Blanc grape (even if it also produces a great Pinot Noir!) and has two winemaking facilities: one in Touraine and one in Sancerre/Pouilly-Fumé.

Their wines regularly win multiple awards at French and international wine contests, such as the Decanter World Wine Awards, the International Wine Challenge, and the Concours Mondial du Sauvignon, confirming the excellence of the winery.
